Setting up a new recording couldn’t be simpler. The program opens a small two-tab interface where you can choose between recording and streaming a new video. When recording a new video, you can select among Full Screen, Lock to app, and Custom to define the area or the element on your desktop that you want to program to capture. Select Game or Device from which you wish to record or stream the gameplay. You can then configure some basic settings about the quality of the video and audio streams, or simply click on the Rec button right away to start recording. Avoiding unpleasant surprises while recording the game of your life or when live-streaming your presentation to your board of directors is one of the keys to success.
The Standard edition of the program can also take screenshots of the entire desktop or a selected area and save them as JPG or PNG files, record audio from a microphone, or limit your recordings to a preset duration. If you want to unleash the program’s full potential, though, you will need to aim at the Deluxe edition. Both editions carry a fee, and the difference in price is so small (merely $ 10), that it is hard to say no to all the extras it comes with. These include its own editing features to trim video and audio and to add titles and transitions – otherwise, you’ll need to have PowerDirector installed. More importantly, the Deluxe version will give you full access to your webcam during the recordings, and the possibility of adding it as a Picture-in-Picture (PiP) element in both recording and live streaming modes.
